Treatments for Schizophrenia
I have chosen the topic of treatments for schizophrenia. The problem with individuals with
schizophrenia is that they think that if they are prescribed specific medications that this disorder
will be “cured” and that life will be great. Shockingly, consistency with a medication regimen is
regularly one of the biggest issues connected with the continuous treatment of schizophrenia.
Since individuals who live with this disorder regularly go off of their medication amid periods
for the duration of their lives, the repercussions of this loss of treatment are intensely felt by the
person, as well as by their family and companions too. Effective treatment of schizophrenia, in
this manner, relies on a long lasting regimen of both medication and behavioral treatments.
My reasoning for choosing this topic is because my cousin was diagnosed in his late teens with
schizophrenia. We as a family thought that all he needed was medication to help with the
delusions and hallucinations, however, behavioral therapy should have also be incorporated into
his treatment plan. Had he continuously taken his medication, as prescribed, alongside some type
of behavioral therapy he may not be living in a state hospital as we speak?
