RUNNING HEAD: ORGANIZATIONAL TEAMS.
TEAM ROLES.
A team is a group of people with different skills who come together to perform a task or a
project. An organizational team is one that come together to perform a task in a firm or an
organization at any given time to achieve set objectives. There are several types of teams
namely; voluntary, non-profit, permanent, virtual e.t.c. All these teams have different roles in
their field of work. These roles are the task they perform in order to achieve set objectives and
targets. In context, I will discuss the shaper, implementer and resource investigator roles in an
organization.
Sharper role;
It’s a role that is performed by people who endure and overcome challenges rather than give up.
They are emotional, impulsive, and out-going. They are extroverts and strive to find the best
ways to overcome challenges facing the team in the organization. They have great
communication skills and are influential to the team. The people who perform this role are
leaders. They lead and motivate the team. They make good managers.
Taking an example, Samira was and still is the manager at Pit Poll’s dishes. I was an employee
few years ago before I joined college. She was very quick at responding to challenges and
always was spear-heading the organization. She involved us in endless meetings and
motivational forums. She was determined to look into the achievement of set objectives and
targets. Among the nine team roles, I would best categorize her under the sharper role.
Implementer role;
It’s a role performed by persons’ who are well organized, practical and efficient. They develop
plans for the team and actually get things done. However, they are slow and rigid and slow due

to their conservative nature. Person’s who perform this role are referred to as doers. Everything
gets done perfectly. Their dark-side is that they are inflexible and resistant to change.
I worked with James Brown my superior at Hasgh Agencies, California branch. His reasoning
and the power to find solutions to problems made him a critical asset to the company. He worked
on our thoughts and ideas and transformed them to workable plans. His power to implement
boosted the company’s performance by 10% in a financial year. I would personally describe him
a doer in all perspectives.
Resource investigator role;
A role performed by people with great networking skills. They are referred to as extroverts. They
easily relate with people hence are able to get external networks beneficial to the team. They are
good thinkers and fast to grab opportunities. They stir up improvements in the team and prevent
stagnation. They are referred to as networkers as they relate well and always have contacts with
external sources. However, they to be very optimistic.
I have a friend who works at Wal-Mart. He began as a common employee but as time went by
his ranks were slowly climbing up the ladder. His great networking and ability to relate with
people have made him among top employees in the company. He has sealed many deals for the
company and truly, his value is priceless. On personal basis, he connected me to a friend of his
who helped me get IT resources that I was lacking for my project. He’s simply a Networking
maestro.
