Synthesizing and Writing
In the sensitive topic of abortion, proponents and opponents continue to pitch arguments
concerning its legalization in the United States. However, despite the ideas that constitute the
disagreements on the legalization of abortion, I believe that the latter should happen. One
premise from the ProCon.org website that supports my position is that the U.S. Supreme Court
declaration that abortion is a "fundamental right" under the U.S. Constitution (ProCon.org,
2016). Another premise is that maternal injury and death due to unsafe and illegal abortions
continues to reduce significantly because of access to legal, professionally-performed abortions.
The third premise in this regard is that abortion gives pregnant women the option to choose not
to bring fetuses with profound abnormalities to full term. I chose the reasons above because they
satisfy the basis of my argument to a great extent and they express my perspective broadly.
The first premise that supports the legalization of abortion states that The U.S. Supreme
Court has declared abortion to be a "fundamental right" guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution
(ProCon.org, 2016). It is the female’s prerogative to decide whether she will have an abortion
because she is entitled to the right of privacy as stipulated in the Constitution. Furthermore, she
has control over her entire body, including her reproductive system. The Roe v. Wade abortion
case that was decided on Jan. 22, 1973 in favor of abortion rights strengthens the argument
because it is regarded as a landmark case that empowered females to break out of bondages of
unwanted pregnancies (ProCon.org, 2016). Therefore, with legal ground pregnant females can an
