Introduction
The network developed amongst various companies that are handling, producing, and/or
distributing a particular product. In particular, the supply chain encompasses all the steps involved in
getting a good or service from the supplier to the consumers. Supply chain management is a very crucial
process for many organizations, and many firms strive to have the most optimized supply chain. This is
because it usually translates to cheaper costs for the firm. The supply chain should not be confused to
logistics. Logistics refers to the distribution process that takes place within the company. On the other
hand, the supply chain includes several companies such as manufacturers, suppliers, as well as the
retailers (Sprott & David, 2011).
Supply chain management can be viewed, as is a cross-functional approach, which involves
managing the movement of raw materials into a firm. It also involved certain aspects of the internal
processing of the raw materials into finished goods that are ready to be sold. Finally, it involves the
movement of finished products out of the company and towards the consumers. As the company strives
on focusing on the core competencies and becoming more flexible, they decrease their ownership of the
raw materials sources as well as the distribution channels (Liker, Jeffrey & Nazli2008). As a result, the
functions are increasingly being outsourced to other organizations that can perform the activities in a
better or more cost-effective manner. The key objective is to increase the number of firms involved in
satisfying consumer demand while at the same time, decreasing managerial control of the day-to-day
logistics operations. This result to minimal control and more supply chain partners that lead to the
development of the concept of supply chain management. The objective of supply chain management is
to enhance trust and collaboration among supply chain parties. Therefore, inventory visibility and the
