success of a business. There are negative consequences of wrong hiring. A business is supposed
to make extensive background checks. It is essential in checking the character along with the
tendencies of the potential employees. There are several benefits of checking the background of
employees. A business may incur a negligent hiring liability when employees are involved in any
form of violence due to criminal acts. Background checks ensure the hiring of the right
individuals thus aids in the reduction of the employee turnover. The business also avoids
negative publicity. A business must meet the statutory obligations by checking the background of
employees. Therefore, the bottom line for employee background checks is the increase in the
overall success along with productivity of a business (Hickox, 2010).

Businesses should be liable for injuries that result from negligent hiring. It is for this
reason that they should ensure extensive and efficient employee background checks. Businesses
are not immune to lawsuits that result from negligent hiring practices. Failure to use a reasonable
care in the ascertaining of the fitness for duty of employees must make the business liable for
that. Even though the business did not have any intention to cause harm to the affected party, it
will be liable for such acts. Businesses sometimes direct the conduct of their employees. They
