7-ELEVEN SUPPLY CHAIN 2
The modern business environment has become extra competitive as compare to past
years. More and more companies are increasingly focusing on the processes that will support
their competitive advantage in the stiff market. This includes shifting responsibility to third
parties including getting specialized consultation from the current processes to a much better
process. As am matter of fact, 7-Eleven is one of the companies facing such challenges as it
moves to offering fresh food and breaking from the former supply chain to a new way of ding
thing and ensuring that there is no wastage and thus maximizing profits.
Originally, the company receives fresh foods in a maximum of three times a week
through the direct store delivery or through the common wholesale channel. Nevertheless, there
has been also the use of demand driven order to delivery for fresh foods on daily basis. From the
prior cycle of delivery, a cutoff for store orders is reaching at specific time together with
reaching the deadline for supplier deliveries for each daily cycle. Orders include fresh food like
sliced fruits, sandwiches, donuts, dairy placed at specific time of the day. After delivery, there is
the warehouse sorting and loading the orders for transportation and then delivered at some other
time of the day as needed.
Looking at the food business today, it has grown too fast, bigger and quicker than the
former 7-eleven processes. The foodservice has therefore become more dynamic over the
decades, creating the need to relook on the existing supply chain management and processes that
will effectively reduce the wastages and increase the profits to the needed levels. Without this,
the organizations in the industry may lack the necessary grounds to becoming competitive as
required by the law and as needed in the future.
