ECOSYSTEM 2
Where might this type of ecosystem be located? Give 1 specific example.
An ecosystem is a combination of all the living species and non-living elements in a specific
local environment. Ecosystem has several components which include water, soil, plants, air,
sunlight, microorganisms, animals, and insects. On the other hand, ecosystem can be terrestrial.
For example, aquatic plants and animals fall in the class of terrestrial ecosystem. Therefore,
grassland is the component of ecosystem which I have selected. Grassland ecosystem is found in
most eco-regions of the Earth. They are naturally found in all continents of the earth except in
Antarctica.
Describe the structure of the ecosystem.
Grassland areas are dominated by grasses and forbs. These areas might have few or no trees.
For this reason roaming and grazing animals are found in these areas. Research shows that they
occupy one quarter of the Earth’s land area. Additionally, grasslands are divided into two main
types. These two types include tropical grasslands and temperate grasslands which are popularly
known as savannas.
List both the biotic components and a biotic component.
A biotic components basically consist of non-living organism and they include the following:
1. Climate
2. Parental material and soil profile
3. Topography
