LEADERSHIP & CONFLICT MANAGEMENT PRESENTATION CONFLICT SITUATION Conflict is always inevitable in places of work. it can rise between the employees, co-workers, supervisors or even the external staff. The ability to manage conflict is the key to competency in small businesses and even large enterprises Rahim &Afzalur (14), argue that conflict in work place can arise from issues of discrimination which may be based on gender, race, age or religion. LEADERS’ RESPONSE As an intervention to the conflict of discrimination, leaders were needed to look closely at the predefined policies regarding job allocation and individual roles on part of the employees. According to Rahim &Afzalur (16), the policies will enable the managers to have a clear mind before establishing if the employee was actually discriminated against, and thereafter choose the most appropriate way to handle the conflict without jeopardizing cohesion among workers. LEADERSHIP THEORY The kind of leadership theory that best suited the situation was the “Situational Theory.” Situational theory proposes that the leaders determine the most appropriate course of action for any given issue, based on the variables of the situation. Rahim &Afzalur (17) highlights democratic or authoritarian styles are common courses of action that leaders can adopt based on the nature of the situation they are handling.
