DISCUSSION 2
In the study by Karaman (2011), one way ANOVA was used appropriately as it was used
to test for differences in perception of online continuing education among the selected groups of
nurses. The specific groups included “nurses who use computers more frequently and nurses who
use computers less frequently”, “area groups (rural-urban)”, “age groups” and those in different
work settings (Karaman, 2011). The major strength of this article as noted by Karaman (2011) is
the number of respondents. The sample size was 1041 students that voluntarily took part in the
electronic survey. The limitations of this study were not adequately discussed as they were
briefly mentioned and in passing. The first limitation is the study being quantitative in nature and
attempting to measure nurse perceptions regarding online learning. This means the respondents
could not provide additional information because they had to stick to the study’s quantitative
criterion. The sample also consisted of nurses in Turkey meaning the results cannot be
generalized to other areas except Turkey. Lastly, the fact that the sample was a convenience
sample has been mentioned as being a limitation without further explanation. This could be
because a convenience sample may not have been a random one as it is only nurses that had
access to the electronic survey that responded to it. This means a significant number of nurses
that may have provided other perceptions may have been left out.
