All about Suicide
Suicide is a term which denotes something that equates to devastation. It is an act
committing which a person not only put his/her life at stake but also put the lives of his/her
family members, friends, and near and dear ones in jeopardy. It must be noted that “Suicide kills
the young dreadfully and disproportionately. And, across the world, in those between the ages of
15 and 44, suicide is the second leading killer of women and the fourth of men”. This is a
dreadful act about which much has been discussed, published, and debated, and it is undeniable
that despite of such a mammoth proportion of emphasis on the issue, still now the gravity of the
issue has not diminished (Jamison, 2001).
If searched on the Internet about the term ‘suicide’ then innumerable discussions can
come before the eyes. The Internet through myriads of blogs, videos, podcasts, etc provides an
unprecedented amount of information and such a huge database indicates how crucially the
incidents of suicide affect the society altogether and how today the web-based media has grown
into a popular means of information influencing the mindset of the communities across the
globe. Moreover, it must be noted that due to the effectiveness of web-based media, myriads of
people are showing their inclination to publish and reveal information related to suicide, its
causes, and its effects, through different forms of Internet publications including blogs, videos,
and podcasts. To support this argument the example of one podcast, one blog post, and one video
on suicide can be analyzed.
In the podcast titled “Preventing Suicide in Young People” (2007), one can get some vital
information about the increase in the rate of suicide cases. According to this podcast, in 2004
alone, in the U.S., about 4,600 deaths occurred due to suicide and the age group in which the
