RESISTANCE TO CHANGE 2
Change is the only real constant. Generally, many people do not take it kindly, especially
when it is plunged on them short of their input. Most people are cautious and fearful of the
change imposed on them. People react to change differently, where some respond with denial
and others with fear (Harvey, & Broyles, 2010). People will not resist transformation that they
have confidence in since it is for their best interest. There are various reasons why people resist
change, as discussed below.
Loss of status
People do not accept the change that they view as destructive to their present situation.
In a business employee, manages and nobles will resist any change, whether technological or
administrative where their role will be diminished or eliminated. Any change that that decreases
or reduces their role in an organization in their perspective, it is a harmful change (Bradutanu,
2015).
Ripple effects
Change creates ripple effects reaching distant spots just like tossing a pebble into a
pond. In an organization, a change in an organization affects departments, customers as well as
stakeholders. Those people who are affected by the change rebel against the move since it
interferes with their activities (Harvey, & Broyles, 2010). . The disruption that comes along with
the change prompts the resistance from the affected parties.
Fear of the unknown
