COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT 2
AN ACTIVITY TO STIMULATE COGNITIVE
DEVELOPMENT.
Hide & Peek
This activity is appropriate for children between 7 to 15
months.
Helps babies develop the understanding of object
permanence, motor skills, cause and effect, and visual
acuity.
What is needed: Two chairs and a long table cloth,
blanket or sheet.
Steps: Make a tent by draping a large sheet, blanket, or
scarf over two chairs situated a few feet apart and
extending to the ground. Place a stuffed animal, or a
doll in the tent, then enquire about it: "Where's Ted?"
Ten lift the fabric to reveal the hidden doll (or help the
baby to do so) and exclaim, "There's Ted!"
Playing hide-and-seek games has some clear cognitive
benefits. Peekaboo aims to teach them the notion of
object permanence, or the idea that things can exist
even if they can't see them. As they try to find the best
possible hiding place or find their target, children are
encouraged to use their imaginations and develop
problem-solving skills while searching for objects or
people (Nagai, 2019).
AN ACTIVITY TO STIMULATE PHYSICAL
DEVELOPMENT.
