Question: What do you perceive to be the implications that equity theory has for workplace
motivation?
Answer:
At workplace, the core of equity theory based upon the principles of balance or equity. It
is due to the usage of equity theory that employees get equal chance of availing the opportunities
at workplace that enhance employees motivation. This motivational theory the level of
motivation of employees at is correlated to their perception of justice, fairness, and equity
established by the management of the organization. The more is the employees’ perception for
justice, and fairness the more is the motivational level of the employees to apply their efforts in
attaining targets set by management.
Employees decide what would be their equitable results after comparing their inputs as
well as outcomes with their co-workers or colleagues. The inputs include things such as: status,
good looks, like ability, aptitude, skill, talent, and knowledge. The concept of comparing inputs
as well as outcomes sometimes referred to as ‘social comparison.’ Equity theory brings lot of
dedication among employees to be considered equally for utilization of all resources in order to
generate revenue at the specified time period. In the competitive environment the use of equity
theory is mandatory for indulging all employees at workplace.
