Presbycusis
Presbycusis or age-related hearing loss is the loss of hearing in both ears, gradually. A
change within the inner ear is the most familiar way that leads to the occurrence of Presbycusis
(Zhang, Gomaa & Ho, 2013). The signs and symptoms of Presbycusis include; trouble hearing
consonants, slurred speech, presence of tinnitus in one or both ears and difficulty in making out
words, especially when in a crowd. Diagnostic tests include ear examination by use of ear
microscopy. The ENT specialist often finds an eardrum which is structured normally.
The otolaryngologist further conducts speech audiogram and a pure-tone to confirm the
diagnosis of Presbycusis ultimately. Other than physical examination, audiometer and general
screening tests ate needed to make a final medical report. Treatment options for
Presbycusis include hearing aids, assistive devices like modern technology which converts
speech to text or telephone amplifiers (Zelman et al., 2015). Also, removal of wax blockage and
surgical procedures and cochlear implants can be essential treatment options too.

For older people, macular degeneration can lead to irreversible and severe vision loss
because of the deterioration of the macula (Goodman et al., 2012). Typically, age-related
macular degeneration (AMD) is categorized into two main types, namely dry and wet forms. The
three stages of AMD are new, intermediate, and late AMD. Signs and symptoms of AMD
include; the appearance of blurry and dark areas in the center of one’s vision and gradual change
in the quality one’s vision (Zelman et al., 2015). In extreme and rare situations, a person might
experience changes in the perception of colors. Often, diagnostic tests for AMD are carried by an
ophthalmologist. Diagnosis includes an examination of the retina and testing one's vision. An
