The COVID-19 pandemic has raised everyone’s awareness of the importance of
combating infectious diseases. However, raising awareness and taking action are two different
objectives. The goal of this project is to propose a series of healthcare policies. These policies
will specifically combat the spread of infectious diseases, the spread of infectious diseases being
the opportunity for improvement (OFI). There are several reasons as to why this problem may
exist, and it is crucial to identify root causes to ensure that proper action is taken. By addressing
various stakeholders within healthcare, these causes can be more adequately explored and
properly related to political competence in the nursing environment (Wilson, & Dobson, 2008).
Firstly, it may be the case that the proper procedures and protocols are in place but are
not being met. Healthcare administrators are trained in preparing, managing, and enforcing
healthcare protocols. However, the procedures and policies by which they abide may be
inefficient, resulting in their inability to effectively establish policies for the prevention of
infectious disease (Erwin & Brownson, 2016, p. 311). Additionally, healthcare administrators are
perfectly positioned to OFIs because they know which procedures are and are not being adopted
easily in the working environment. Meetings need to be held with healthcare administrators to
discuss challenges they face and insights they have on the issue.
Similarly, human resource managers should also be addressed in meetings. These
individuals have a unique perspective on the organization because they gather complaints and
perspectives from various individuals from within. Their insights on what is most concerning to
professionals in the facility can inform future actions. Thus, it is important to know whether or
not human resource managers are properly listening to employees, accurately documenting the
information, and relaying this information through the proper channels. Meetings with such
managers and employees can be useful in deriving the effectiveness of human resources.
