BIOGEOCHEMICAL CYCLES
Carbon Cycle
The biogeochemical cycle selected is the Carbon Cycle. This is among the most impacted
cycle by most of the human activities. Human beings affect the carbon cycle in two significant
ways: either by deduction of CO2 gas from the surroundings or addition of this gas back into the
environment. Naturally, the Carbon Cycle is made in a way that is self-balancing and self-
sustaining. Burning of the fossil fuels is the main wellspring of CO2 discharged into the
atmosphere (Girard, 2019). Fossil fuels release more gas than nature can absorb, and this results
in other pressing issues like global warming. Further, it interferes with the Carbon Cycle.
Additionally, deforestation has promoted the elevation of carbon dioxide levels, and this has
dramatically affected the Carbon cycle.
There are other human operations which promote the abstraction of the Carbon Dioxide
from the air, such processes including Carbon Sequestration (Girard, 2019). Sequestration
alludes to the extraction of CO2 from the atmosphere and afterward storing it in liquified from.
When this gas is extracted from the air, the overall Carbon Cycle is interrupted. Generally, most
of the human operations have a great impact on the Carbon Cycle. The proposed solutions
include planting of trees, replacement of fossil fuel, and prevent air pollution.
