Power Balance Essay Assignment
Introduction
A healthy functioning balance system is essential in most daily living activities.
Symptoms of imbalance, lack of strength and flexibility are common in the general population,
which is why the designers of Power Balance introduced their hologram wristband in the market.
This ‘revolutionary new product’ was introduced to harness the inherent occurring frequency and
program into a hologram. The company claims that the frequencies react with the body natural
energy field. Many people still purchase this pseudoscience of the bracelet, believing that it can
align with their natural frequencies, thus improving their strength, balance, and flexibility. In
Kochsporting videos, the spokesman, and his partner perform balance, strength and flexibility
test with the bracelet. Each test is carried without the hologram and with a hologram to
demonstrate the improvement of the three performance test. A more in-depth examining on the
test, however, indicates that the Balance hologram wristband is a sham; it does not and cannot
improve a person balance, flexibility or strength.
In the first test, the speaker instructs his partner to be still, with their heels and toes
together and his finger extended straightout. His palms are pronated and their wrist neutron and
their one leg raised. He then pushed his partner downwards outside the elbow towards the hand
as he resists the motion. It is easier to push out of the balance using this test. The instructor then
instructs his subject to repeat the test with the power balance wristband on the wrist. This test

assumes that the product will improve the balance that the subject will stumble the first time
quickly when compared to the second test. The trick, however, is on the tests. Without the band,
the subject is instructed to stand still on this feet, while the instructor pushed the hand outside the
elbow. Using the band, the same procedure is used, but the force is applied inside the elbow,
which makes it easier to resist the force. The few inches difference between the two tests is hard
to notice. However, they make a total difference. By putting pressure inside the elbow, towards
the centre of gravity of the subject, substantially reduces the torque on the shoulder, thus making
it easier to stay upright. Thus, the power balance wristband serves no function in this test.
In the second test, the instructor is trying to demonstrate that the power balance bracelet
improves strength. His partner is instructed to assume a standing position with the heel and toe
together and arms relaxed on both sides, elbow extended and wrist locked in a neutral position.
Without the power balance bracelet, the instructor pushes the arm downward and outward the
subject centre of gravity. However, with the wristband, the instructor pushes the hand
downwards but towards the body of the subject. He uses the second hand to push his partner
hand on the inside, which makes it possible to resist the strength. Using the second hand to push
the hand, downwards directs the force toward the body of his subject. Again, the bracelet serves
no purpose in these tests; the instructor is only using a trick to manipulate the eye of his
spectators.
In the third flexibility test, the subject stands with the same as in other tests, but in this
case, he is instructed to flex. In the first test, the subject rotates their torso as far as they can, and
does the same on the second test. Anyone who has done such test or exercise will agree that the
first flex is always hard, but given two seconds to rest, then they can stretch a little further and
further until they reach their limit. Expectations, in this case, affect the way the instructor and his
