DATA ADMINISTRATION 2
Data and Database Administration
Many organizations have business aspects and technical aspects that define the
organization's policies and data analysis for the whole organization at large. Data administration
is, therefore, the business aspect side, while database administration handles the technical
aspects. However, many organizations ignore the business aspect and deal with only the
technical part by incorporating database analysis. Others will combine data administration with
the database administration role. Some organizations use the DBA system administrator to split
up the technical aspects and install or upgrade the DBMS. This paper seeks to address data
administration and database administration and their differences.
Data administration manages the organization by separating data resources management
with business aspects and aligns the business aspect with the business users of data. It is possible
to understand the business vocabulary or technical processes through the data administrator and
translate them into a logical model. The data administrator is involved in the gathering, analysis,
and design phases of the organization to identify and catalog the data required by the users and
produce conceptual and logical data that connects data elements with the organization's business
processes of the organization (Olanrewaju, 2016). It also sets policies for the organization and
sets standards for control and usage of data.
On the other hand, database administration can only perform some functions when the
data administrator is available. Database administration makes it possible for understanding the
data models created by the data administrator; it also makes sure to present the models to the
appropriate technicians and application developers. The DBA can be relevant to its functions
after transforming the logical data model into an efficient physical database design.
