Brief Introduction: Attractiveness for Both Sexes
For the continuity of species, animals and humans make choices on the preferred
mating partner, based on certain attributes possessed by potential partners. A transcending
requirement among and across species is physical attractiveness. Civilization and evolution of
the human species, however, have emphasized certain personality and psychosocial attributes as
elements of attractiveness. For men, the desired personality traits are a result of the article ‘The
Dark Triad Personality: Attractiveness to Women’s adaptive evolution and refinement of desired
personality traits. Gregory L. Carter, Anne C. Campbell, and Steven Muncer, the authors of the
article, state the adap6tive male traits are as a result of their [resumed higher fitness variance and
lowered obligatory investment, at least, as far as raising young ones is concerned. The article
states women have increased the incentive to actively engage in committed relationships since
casual encounters bring increased risk and come at detrimental costs- pregnancy, STIs, and
physical injury. The article seeks to analyze these strategies., in a specific manner to, perhaps,
shed more light on why men are the way they are, at least, how they are perceived to be. The art

According to the article, the Dark Triad is, essentially, a collection of three
personalities: narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellism. As already stated, these three
personality traits are considered adaptive responses that take shape due to men’s dispositions to
short-term romantic encounters. Indeed, each personality trait, in its own right, plays a crucial
role in what women generally consider as attractive, as will be seen in further discernment of the
article as well as how men actively engage in romantic relationships.
The first trait, narcissism, is thought to be an evolved solution to the frequent
dispositions of men to compete with one another to successfully seduce a mate. The authors also
