WORKING AS A TOUR GUIDE 2
The hospitality industry is diversified with many career opportunities. I would like to be a
tour guide. Being a tour guide is much rewarding, as I will enjoy it when other people are on
vacation. A tour guide gets an opportunity to travel to various destinations of the world. As a
tour guide, I will integrate with world cultures and learn many things around the globe.
To become a tour guide, one needs to be charismatic. The guide is entrusted with
different personalities who have no information about the places of interest. All the tourists rely
on the tour guide. Therefore, the tour guide should have charisma and have the ability to make
good relations with different personalities. It requires one to entertain the tourists and make them
comfortable as they learn new places (Sprake, 2012). A tour guide should also possess adequate
knowledge. Every tourist wants to learn from the guide. As a result, the guide should have a clue
and give reliable information to the team. The tour guide also needs to be an excellent
communicator. When one is charismatic and knowledgeable, there is a need to interact with
people effectively. The guide should ensure that the team is happy and lively throughout the
vacation session. Tour guides should have a sense of humor and give the tourist a memorable
experience.
A tour guide is a leader during vacations. They have a role in making various decisions
during the tour. First, they should meet and pick up the client at the airport. They should later
make preparations for accommodation, meals, and transportation of the tourists. The tour guide
is entrusted with the role of providing security to the tourists (Sprake, 2012). They should hence
ensure that tourists and their properties are secure. The tour guide should give the necessary
information about the tour. This includes the schedule and the areas they intend to visit every day
of the vacation. All the activities carried during the vacation should be led by the tour guide.
