Compare and contrast Adam Smith’s and Jean Jacques Rousseau’s view about the
relationship between individuals and societies (community) and then explain how Rousseau is
considered by some scholars to be a forbearer of communism?
Adam Smith’s view is on reasons that are more prosperous than the other, and he argues
on three fundamental concepts that include the nature of wages, foreign markets, and division of
labor. He adds that humans are the input of production that plays a significant role in the
development of their country. However, he agrees with Rousseau that their ideas bring about
improvement in society. On the other hand, Jean Jacques Rousseau’s view is that humanity's
downfall is directly related to society and its government (Wennerlind, 2017). Additionally,
Rousseau believes in two categories of inequality that include inequality through physical body
determined by nature and inequality through political and morality. Moreover, he states that the
introduction of ownership and government-created needs and wants. Rousseau is considered by
many scholars to be a forbearer of communism since his view advocates for equality and
attempts to eliminate selfishness and constant threat to humanity.
