Business Process Improvement Methodology
In any business, logically related tasks get performed to achieve a company’s goal. While
executing these task processes, in the long run, they might need changes to adapt to the advancing
technology/demands. The essay aims to expound on the Six Sigma business process methodology.
First, an organizational problem that needs improvement will get identified, and the desired
outcomes discussed. The paper will also have a look at the metrics for measuring the expected
results and an explanation of why the measurement metrics are the most appropriate. It will further
include a process for determining root causes as well as the Six Sigma tools to follow through
these processes (Montgomery & Woodall, 2008).
In any organization, effective communication is critical, with employees being the primary
audience. Communication is an essential aspect in employee management, product development,
and customer relations. I will, therefore, focus on the communication and feedback issue, which
is a common problem that needs improvement in many organizations today. Among the
organizations is Yahoo, which indicated a poor communication strategy to its employees on
February 28
th
, 2013. There was an adverse reaction after a poorly constructed memo which failed
to explain a rational culture change in the company. The workforce had no idea of the implemented
“in office” policy, which further illustrated another fundamental problem for improvement in the
organization; lack of awareness. Because of this, the workforce got upset and frustrated.
Further, after the incident, Marissa Mayer, the Yahoo CEO, claimed through a representative that
the company does not usually discuss internal matters. After the memo leaked to outsiders, Mayer
had to break the silence. In a conference consisting of human resource professionals at Los
Angeles, the CEO began speaking about the company culture at Yahoo. However, after a few
minutes, she interrupted herself and changed the topic. Mayer did not hesitate on the policy, which
