Business Networking Memo
In particular, San Diego is hosting with the central theme being "the ways to increase efficiencies
in logistics, accounts payable and telecommunications." The resolve of this memo is to elucidate
how the recently attained networking expertise from Amy Sachs, Edward Rogoff and Andrea
Nierenberg can be applied to identify new customers for Granite during the conference.
In his book The Entrepreneurial Conversation, Edward Rogoff applies three primary principles
for the basis of any fruitful business conversation or relationship. First, the entrepreneur needs to
understand the potential client's actual concerns or essential criteria. This principle begs the
question of how Granite may utilize available resources to help clients in solving the identified
problems. Secondly, the business needs to clearly and honestly communicate its ideas on the
strategies of solving these problems, while stressing the value of customer's long-term outcomes.
Thirdly, the business needs to listen to the clients objectively. Notably, the clients will guide us
on the best customer relations initiatives aimed at accomplishing positive mutual goals.
Additionally, Rogoff also offers guidelines on the common mistakes made by salespersons.
These guidelines include avoiding urges to oversell the product or service, avoid misleading the
client’s expectations. Salespersons should also avoid preventing the client from accomplishing
their goals. For this reason, the business needs to understand and equally meet the client’s
expectations. Besides, the sales team needs to relay the truth regarding setbacks in delivery dates
or lack of inventory in due time.
Two of my mentors have provided me with remarkable procedural advice on the best methods
and strategies for networking. Andrea Nierenberg has provided five essential guidelines which
have significantly improved the quality and scope of my networking capacity. Networking being
part of her life, she has continuously imparted others with imperative networking ideas.
