Niche Hotel Group: Managing a Diverse Workforce
Managing diversity is one of the crucial exercises that organizations need to embrace in
order to succeed. According to Luthans, diverse workforce is the one that recognizes both
similarities and differences among employees in terms of cultural backgrounds, race, sex, physical
disabilities, age and sexual orientations (p.312). Human resource managers who embrace diversity
in the workplace encourage hiring employees from different cultural backgrounds, races,
viewpoints, sexual orientation and with different ages. On the other hand, managing diversity
involves recognizing employees’ differences in culture, age, physical disabilities, sex, and races
while recruiting, hiring and training these employees and when dealing with the employees as
individuals as well as utilizing their differences for the benefit of the organization. Basing on the
concluding case, this presentation will discuss how promoting a diverse workforce can help Niche
Hotel Group succeed as a business, why diversity training has not always prevented problems at
NHG and what NHG should do to improve its climate for diversity.
How promoting a diverse can help Niche Hotel Group succeed as a business

employees of different age and gender thus bringing different skills together. With different skills
in the organization’s workforce, NHG will enjoy the benefits of innovation. Innovation and
creativity contribute a greater percentage to business success. As discussed by Luthans in chapter
11 of his book “Organizational Behavior” creativity and innovation have become vital for business
success.
Better employee’s performance. Promoting a diverse workforce in NHG will make its
employees feel more comfortable in the workplace hence increased motivation that translates to
higher productivity and improved employees performance. When employees performance
improves, the hotel succeeds in business.
Improved skills and experience. Diversity in the workplace offers more skills and
experience to the hotel's team. Having a well-rounded team in the organization that can tackle any
project and solve complex problems, makes the hotel achieve great success in its business.
Through managing a diverse workforce, NHG will be able to outperform its competitors thus
achieving success in business. Business with gender balance and a good mix of ethnic backgrounds
is more likely to beat their competitors. Outperforming competitors is the first step to achieve
success in any business. Therefore, with a diverse workforce, NHG will be in a better position to
outperform its competitors thus achieving great success in business.
Why training has not been always preventing problems at NHG
I think diversity training has not been always preventing problems at NHG because the
management has been focusing so much on categorizing people. Categorizing people only
promotes prejudice instead of extinguishing it. The training that emphases on categorizing people
solidify the attitudes of prejudice and bias. According to Clements and John, firms that make
