Boldly Go - Risk Management 2
Boldly Go / Risk Management:
Introduction:
Providence Healthcare has a long history of 158 years, located in Toronto Canada. The
company has almost 1100 personnel including physicians and employees and 350 volunteers.
The healthcare facility is primarily financed by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-term
Care. The “Boldly Co” case study relates to the leadership qualities of the president and CEO
of Providence Healthcare, Josie Walsh. (Weil & Reddin, 2017)
Josie Walsh has been a value-based leader and was appointed for this position four
years ago in 2011. Since then, she has caused a major turnaround for the company from a
possible crisis to a healthy and innovative healthcare facility. She possesses the leadership
qualities of humility, integrity, collaboration, courage, and accountability. She wants
Providence Healthcare to continue on the same path by collaborating and integrating the
leadership values of change into the company’s core capabilities and to win the stakeholder's
support in the future as well. (Weil & Reddin, 2017)
Risk Management:
Providence Healthcare like any other company is faced with multiple risks. These risks
can be categorized into various types. The risks can either be internal or external, and
systematic or unsystematic. Other categories of risks include business risks, strategic risks, and
hazard risks.
All these risk categories help evaluate the exact nature and intensity of risk, and the
most suitable for the identified and evaluated risk. The process of risk management comprises
risk identification, risk analysis, risk prioritization, risk treatment, and risk monitoring.
Research paper by Heinz-Peter Berg (2010), provides valuable guidelines for risk assessment
