TOURISM IN SOUTHWEST CHINA
There have been varying definitions given to the term tourism based on the author of the
article or the context of the study. Therefore, for the context of this study, Tourism is defined as
the act and process spending some time away from home to have pleasure, relaxation or
recreation as a way of spending the vacation period while making use of the commercial service
provided. In the current 21
st
century, tourism has grown into one of the world’s most important
economic activity with its impacts becoming increasingly apparent from the Arctic and
Antarctica.
It can be said that the modern Tourism is different from the ancient 18
th
-century tourism
by many factors, this is because today tourism is increasingly becoming intensive, commercially
organized, and business-oriented and involves set activities whose roots can be traced from the
post-industrial and industrial of the west (Ballantyne, & Pickering, 2015). Some of the primary
reasons which lead to the development or improvement of tourism from the ancient perspective
to the modern view are that the European journey for leisure, health, and culture became
common among middle classes and also how to acquire the cultural capital becomes a concern
among these groups.
As a way of getting and blending well with one of the world’s polite societies, the
European middle-class group leaned that they require an array of knowledge and experience to
make this goal come true; they then developed classes to study the health, culture, and leisure of
this groups. Apart from the class knowledge, the embark on guidebooks, primers as well as the
development of arts and the souvenir markets. Now they have embarked on the calibration of
accommodation and transport systems so that they can begin the journey to these polite lands.
