BALANCING VARIOUS LEADERSHIP ASPECTS 2
Balancing Various Leadership Aspects
Introduction
A leader has to have several characteristics. Not only should a leader be able to define
and articulate the vision to the team, but also a leader should also be a guide and enforcer of
principles. This is especially the case for information technology experts handling complex
projects that may carry several ethical issues. To better understand ethical issues in project
management, we shall analyze some roles of project managers in leadership, look at the human
resource factors involved, offer some strategies for overcoming conflicts, look at some
leadership approaches and their appropriate application, analyze some ethical dilemmas, and
look at technology in project management.
Discussion
Roles of IT Managers in Leadership
An effective leader has to carry the vision of the team and communicate it efficiently to
the team. As such, one of the important roles that information technology managers can play in
leadership is enhancing good communication. The goals, values, expectations, and progress are
some of the areas that require clear communication. Good communication should be
characterized by high levels of integrity and openness. A good leader should be able to
communicate with all the members of a project from top-level management to grass-root
employees. Additionally, there is a need to have plenty of persuasive skills when dealing with
employees. Persuasion is important for motivating the team to meet its goals as well as for
setting important guidelines to be followed by the team for ethical purposes.
