The cons of using Amazon marketplace
Unscrupulous sellers can steal your listings; the Amazon marketplace contains
marketers who are trying to game the business by producing counterfeit products. They produce
products that are substandard and sell them in the genuine and substantial listings of the
company. As a result, this would affect the marketing of the purchasing power of the customers
since they will lose confidence in these kinds of products (Danziger, 2019). Considering the
reputation of Stihl Company, this would be a setback to its name and sales in general. The
customers’ reviews are very important for dealers to succeed with the Amazon, therefore, as a
result of the counterfeits, customer reviews are under the legitimate brand owners’ listings, and
this is detrimental to their prosperity.
High commissions and stiff competition; the commissions that Amazon charges on its
vendors are extremely high (15-29%), and this, coupled with the high demands for delivery of
goods, the profits significantly reduces (Danziger, 2019). Sales are very high, yet the profits
garnered out of the large sales are very low. Another component of the Amazon marketplace is
the very stiff competition that forces the dealers to lower their prices to compete in the market. In
the process of securing large sales with such low prices, the profits of the vendors are minimal,
and this would, therefore, significantly affect Stihl Company. Besides, Amazon owns the
relationship with the customers. Since the vendors are selling in their marketplace, the customers
are for Amazon, and this would affect the customer base of the Stihl Company.
Harsh punishments for policy breaches, whenever a vendor breaks any policy of the
Amazon, the account may be closed, and the steps for reopening may be hard and unbearable
(Danziger, 2019). Dealers may suffer big losses in order to regain their accounts, and the process
may also take longer. Also, regardless of whether or not a customer uses the Fulfilment By
Amazon (FBA), they are still responsible for their customers, and in case of any problem, they
must do everything to make the customers happy (Danziger, 2019). All these factors may
negatively affect the success of Stihl Company.
