NUCLEAR CONFRONTATION 2
Introduction
It is essential to note that the Cuban Missile Crisis that took place in October the year
1962 was identified as direct as well as dangerous confrontation between the United States and
the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), also known as the Soviet Union, during the
Cold War. It was a time when the two giants came closest to what can be described as nuclear
conflict. This crisis was unique in a couple of ways, and it, to a great extent, featured calculation
as well as miscalculations, including communications as well as miscommunications between
these two countries. It is proper to remember that the Cuban Missile Crisis started when the
USSR began to install nuclear missiles in Cuba (Getchell, 2018). However, the United States
was not ready to allow this to occur, and as such, it created a moment whereby America and the
USSR almost came to nuclear conflict during the Cold War. Therefore, this paper is focused on
discussing the perceptions, understandings as well as assumptions that each of these nations had
about the other during this dangerous confrontation of the Cold War.

government had taken the step of installing or in other words, setting nuclear missile sites in
Turkey as well as Italy with the aim of striking and destroying Moscow (Arnold, & Wiener,
2012). Such an approach made the Soviet Union look for a way or in other words, an action that
could strike at the United States in return. Because the Cuban government desired for protection
