Introduction
An ethical dilemma is a situation where nurses or medical practitioners are indifferent
about making a particular decision because of conflicting personal and workplace ethics. It
involves being stuck between two possible choices where choosing one will transgress the other.
However, the healthcare policy outlines how nurses are supposed to handle such situations to
reduce cases of making unethical decisions or decisions based on personal beliefs (Ganz et al.,
2015). The decisions that health practitioners make should be based on protecting the life and
welfare of the patients. They should also regulate the amount of information to disclose to them
for beneficence and their well-being. This article focuses on a recent situation where I faced an
ethical dilemma and how the situation was handled.
Ethical dilemmas are faced by nurses almost every day in their workplace. However, being
well informed about how to handle circumstances concerning the ethical health policy makes
them make moral decisions. According to Rainer, nurses should strive to separate personal
beliefs with workplace ethics to avoid making wrong decisions that might threaten the health and
life of a patient. The ethical dilemma that I have recently experienced in my workplace is where
divorced parents were fighting for their mentally unstable kid, not realizing that they were the
source of the child’s depression and anxiety. The kid had post-traumatic stress disorder due to
the actions of the parents.
In this case, the fight between the parents was the reason why the kid had a mental
disorder. Kids tend to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder if they witness conflicts between
their parents or other traumatic events. Contextually, I was faced with a dilemma of whether to
