DNA Extraction
DNA Extraction Answers to Lab Exercise
Hypothesis
The experiment aims to shows how DNA can be divided into specific fragments by restriction enzymes
and later how the DNA fragments can be grouped according to their size on agarose gel by gel electrophoresis
Introduction
DNA extraction is the process by which DNA is extracted from the nucleus and the genetic material put
in a precipitate. Restriction enzymes are defined as the proteins found in different bacteria that act as defense
mechanisms in different living organisms. The restriction enzymes are used to cut through different DNA
strands and divide them into fragments. Gel electrophoresis is the process by which DNA is separated from
other forms of protein such as RNA. Agarose gel is used in the electrophoresis because it acts as a sieve to
separate different DNA fragments by identifying which are the long strands and which are the short strands. The
work of them in this experiment is to help in the separation of DNA. Some of the examples of restriction
enzymes are Haemophilus influenza and Escherichia Coli. The application of this in the commercial understory
is that it helps identify organism with similar genomes and also help in cloning of DNA from a given organism.
This experiment utilizes confinement compound processing to appraise the comparability in nucleotide
succession between various DNA atoms. This can be cultivated by looking at the DNA sections that result from
the processing of every particle. With how far the DNA migrates in the electrophoresis box with agarose gel, it
is possible to know which are long fragments and which are short fragments of given DNA.
