The Significance of African American Urban Organizations
The significance of the African American Urban Organization was to fast track the
acculturalization of African Americans into the civil liberties of the United States. The National
Afro-American League organization was meant to steer the African Americans through the
reconstruction journey of the United States to overcome the obstacles such as literacy tests, poll
taxes, black codes, and grandfather clauses that were meant to bar the African Americans from
taking part in any political process (Lewis, 2017). The organizations were particularly
established in response to these discriminatory bylaws to champion for the full rights, liberties,
and citizenship for the African Americans. Essentially, these organizations were formed to fight
for their rights, equal representation, and end the discrimination and injustice meted on the
African Americas.
The Black women’s club movement was specifically formed to battle racial
discrimination and bring reforms into the civil rights and liberties of black women. These
organizations also provided social services and financial support to women. It also provided poor
women with moral guidance in response to the intense racism that was common during the late
19th century. The movement also provided women with knowledge and education to empower
them so that they could take up their active role in various economic activities. (Nadasen, 2006).
This organization also alleviated poverty among women, enhanced organizational skills, and
provided healthcare services to women. It also engaged the intellectual elite to publicize the
prevalence of lynching his movement also engaged the intellectuals in the urban space to
champion political activism and publicize the lynching practice meted on the blacks.
The National Urban League was established to champion the acculturation of the blacks
as they moved from rural areas to the urban centers. This organization sought to merge social
