One of the major questions asked is whether the national economy will be affected by
restricting carbon emissions. People opposing the restriction of carbon emissions claim that
capping the emissions of greenhouse gas will negatively affect the competition levels of the
domestic production, which will drive jobs and investments offshore that will end up destroying
the economy (Cicio, 2009). People supporting the restriction of carbon emissions claim that
emissions will be beneficial for the financial sector since it will result in the development of
many business opportunities, which will end up fueling the global economy. The main objective
of capping greenhouse gas emissions carbon emissions reduction to protect the environment.
However, focusing on the financial aspects of the capping has resulted in states such as Ontario
canceling the cap and trade system. With interests in environmental protection through
reductions of carbon emissions, this essay supports the motion that Ontario should be part of the
cap and trade system.
The Ontario province should be part of the cap and trade system as it puts a cap or limit
on the emissions of greenhouse that could be emitted every year by large industrial polluters.
Under the cap and trade system, there are financial incentives for organizations that reduce their
pollution faster because they can sell their allowances to organizations that pollute faster (Cicio,
2009). The cap and trade system provides firms flexibility since it increases resources to make
reductions. The system also encourages organizations to reduce pollution faster and encourages
them to be innovative. The cap and trade programs give organizations flexibility. Besides, it
results in organizations and policy makers having a wider pool of available financial resources
reduce the emissions, which pushes the organizations to reduce their pollution faster since the
