Introduction
Diversity and equity are efforts placed in the society, especially in an established
organization, that aims to appease marginalized groups in the society. Diversity efforts aim to
ensure that minority groups are well represented in an organization. This is to say that, in the
hiring process, while the merit and value of a candidate are the qualities that are desirable,
ensuring that all ethnic groups are well represented in the organization has become important in
our modern society. Equity, on the other hand, aims to bring impartial and fair consideration in
terms of opportunity, access and the advancement of everyone in an organization. Equity strives
to take note and eliminate the barriers that blocked the participation of the marginalized groups.
This begs the question; does diversity and equity in the workplace provide fair opportunities for
all or do they have their own drawbacks as well.
