Epidemiological data refers to various non-experimental observations that are made based on
the current health situation of the people. The study analysis the distribution and determinants of
health and disease conditions in a defined population. The analysis can be done on the part of a
certain population depending on the current health trends observed in that area or with particular
population (Moncayo, 2017). Epidemiological data has a lot of impact when it comes to decision
making in the healthcare practices as it gives an insight on the actions to be taken. For instance,
if there is an outbreak of cholera, the specific population affected will be attended by specialists
to reduce the risk of spread to other people. They will use observational data that they have from
the ground without necessarily defining the percentage of the people affected. They will rely on
the current data to ensure they give the treatment to the people and prevent its spread.
Epidemiological data helps in coming up with an urgent response aspect from the healthcare
practitioners (Moncayo, 2017). The healthcare practitioners will gauge the risk factors for the
specific disease like cholera in our case and come up with targets for preventive healthcare.
