What are routing protocols?
Routing protocols are a family of computer networks that enable and specify how routers
communicate and enable the selection of routes for the intelligent forwarding of traffic between
the networks.
Why do we use them?
Routing protocols help in identifying possible network destinations and manage the routes of
these network destinations. They also decide on where to send particular network messages.
What is Router RIP?
A Routing Information Protocol is a type of routing protocol that limits the number of hops to
prevent loops in order to find the best path that can be used between the source and the
destination. IN its routing metric, RIP uses hop count to determine the best route to connect the
source and the destination.
What is OSPF?
Open Shortest Path First is a protocol that is used to distribute IP information with the nearest
routers that are available. Any change of link is detected by OSPF and shared among other
routers.
How are they similar, and how are they different?
Both RIP and OSPF are types of routing protocols. However, RIP is a traditional routing
protocol that has recently been replaced by OSPF. Additionally, RIP and OSPF connect a source
