Literature in Real-world Issues & Contemporary Problems
In their daily lives, readers and writers constantly make connections across past and
present experiences in order to construct their understandings of themselves and their world. In
fact, reading & writing can be defined as a process of making connections, of searching for
patterns that connect so that we can make sense of our world.
Literature is a form of entertainment that has stood the test of time. The way we read
has revolutionized and developed as technology breakthroughs have progressed. The
importance of storytelling and its impact on our lives, on the other hand, hasn’t changed.
From bedtime stories of fiction to news related article, Literature had a significant impact
to us growing up. Whether you remember any of those, it may have changed our perspective
sometime in our lives. And this change is vital for the development of our awareness that
eventually widens to societal involvement and movement. Literature reflects the very nature of
humans, how we learn, and relate with each other.
A word is powerful. A collective of it, with so much thoughts put into it and right timing,
is influential. We define literature as an expressional tool. The amalgamation of words from
thoughts expressed into any kind of medium is a glimpse of the writer’s creative pursuit for
change. It is simply what literature does. It gives everyone the freedom to think. It takes them to
a place where the minds lead them. Where a word is powerful, perception is a path. Where
Literature is a tool, perception is the readers way of involvement. It would be difficult to discuss
about how the mind really works but we know for sure that reading will only leads them towards
their involvement or not. This is why Literature is subjective. So, what literature must be? Simply
a carrier. Carrier of someone’s thoughts.
A literature can be anything. It shape-shift according to what your mind tells you. It affects
our belief toward something. Literature is dependable of someone’s perception. But you don’t
go insert your perception or belief to factual truth. This is what Literature needed to be. Literature
must embody factual truthfulness. This is where we draw a line from what we believe in to facts.

Today, with the advancement of technology and the emergence of social media, everyone has
the ability to share their own thoughts through posting or commenting. Given the power of what
literature does combine with technology can give rise to a movement.
Literature needed to be or to have factual truthfulness and that’s how we can established
ourselves and relationships among people toward a movement with action. How Literature
would relate to real-world issues and contemporary problems? By stating unbiased truth. Fiction-
based literature has some truths to it. It may have not be a peer-reviewed or research-based
literature, it leans toward the truth. Why? Because growing up, we were thought about the
concept of goodness and the concept of what’s right or wrong.
Salman Rushdie once said, “Literature is where I go to explore the highest and lowest
places in human society and in the human spirit, where I hope to find not absolute truth but the
truth of the tale, of the imagination and of the heart.” Writing unbiased truth is how literature
will help us in relating to real-world issues and contemporary problems. May we always ought to
write and speak for the truth without being biased in this world full of lies and manipulation.
