BOOK SUMMARY 2
Book Summary
November
The author starts the chapter with a vivid description of the events while serving his prison
sentence. The author narrates how the conditions in the prisons are. He is not pleased and advocates
for a change in the conditions in which the inmates live. The author is of the idea that before any
judge sentences an offender to prisoning, he or she should be in good terms with the prison. He
says that judges should occasionally if not regularly visit prisons to beware of what goes on inside
the walls. Perhaps this concept will make the justice system to show mercy to petty offenses. He
proposes that people should not have sentencing that leads to imprisonment. He instead thinks that
serious offenders are the ones to be imprisoned to ease the congestion in the prisons. According to
him, serious sex offenses like rape cases should have prison sentences. The author thinks that the
current punishment for offenses is from minor crimes and they do not undergo fair justice systems.
The author narrates how his life in prison has been since he was sentenced. He recalls the vivid
unfolding of events that led to his imprisonment. He is however told by his son that people out
there think that he is very strong when serving his sentence. On the contrary, he thinks that being
in the cells is just an obligation but not anything to be strong about. The conditions in prison make
him regret the situation that led him there. He appreciates his family and friends for being with
him through the difficult moment. One of his dear friends, Joe writes a letter of encouragement to
him. The author reveals the content of the letter. The letter is about the scriptural readings for the
previous Sunday church service. The words have encouragement for him as he ponders through
them.
