Reflection of Teaching Statement
In the education field, teachers should have high expectations of themselves, and their
students. I believe creating a welcoming, and inclusive classroom, sets students up to be as
successful as possible, while having a safe place of belonging. Every individual educator should
have their own set of ideals, that shape the way they teach students, hold themselves in the
classroom, and engage with others around them. I believe being a positive role model, acting in
an ethical manner, and showing character traits such as compassion, advocacy and dedication is
what makes the difference when trying to be an outstanding teacher.
At the conclusion of my self-assessment, I was able to confirm that my beliefs align with
my professional dispositions statement. I strongly agree that I can successfully demonstrate
qualities of empathy, compassion, and respect in the classroom, and in the school environment.
Collaborating with other educators and creating a learning environment that promotes positive
student development is another important step to complete, to be a well-rounded educator.
Throughout my program of study, I have gained the knowledge to allow myself to grow
throughout my professional dispositions. A word that I have learned, and continued to
understand its importance, is differentiation. Every student has different learning needs,
processes information differently, and comes from different cultures and backgrounds. Because
of this, it is crucial that educators are meeting these different needs and teaching in a way that
ensures students can be academically successful. Using differentiation techniques allows
teachers to effectively educate students by presenting topics in a diverse way and using different
“avenues for understanding new information” (Wikipedia Contributors, 2021). I feel as though I
have grown as an educator because I have grasped the importance of differentiation and
understand how to apply it in the classroom.

There is a strong relationship between professional dispositions, and the Model Code of
Ethics. The Model of Ethics is a great guide to follow when creating and following professional
dispositions. The Model of Ethics outlines the responsibilities and expected professionalism of
educators. When educators follow the Model Code of Ethics, they can also follow personal
professional dispositions, which ensures they are being the best educator as possible.
As with any professional position, there is always things that could be improved. I
believe I have one area that needs improvement as I continue my journey as an educator. This
area would be being sensitive to cultural norms of students. To be sensitive to these different
cultural norms, I must be familiar with what these different cultural norms are. I grew up and
have taught in an area that is not very culturally diverse. As I continue my teaching career, I
would like to familiarize myself with different cultures, and really understand their beliefs and
traditions. I plan on taking the steps necessary to accomplish this, so I can be sensitive to these
students’ different cultural norms and be the best educator possible.
