Drawing from Coghlan’s academic analysis, discuss the following three key

points as you examine your role, functions, and responsibilities as an internal

action researcher:

 Examine the most salient challenges and advantages of the Internal AR

person.

 Identify strategies to deal with challenges and to capitalize on the

advantages.

 Explore additional considerations not addressed in the Coghlan article.

Dr. David Coghlan is one of the most famous professors who developed theories and

the practice of insider action research. He published many books which revealed the

actual effect of insider action research. The most salient challenges and advantages of

his work include the experience participatory methods which are most effective if the

researcher has made a quite strong relationship and trust. According to him the theme

of insider action research is that the situation that arises is from the experience of the

researcher. The advantages of an experienced action researcher are:

- He would think about the present scenario and not about the knowledge and

belief he was constituted before.

- Aware of the knowledge about a particular community and the way they spend

their daily life makes a huge influence in the decision of the action researcher.

- The questions and the conclusion that can be made from the researcher are

merely because of the experience they are holding.

Several disadvantages and the challenges are also enlightened by Coghlan, they are:

- The experience of the action researcher can act in a negative way and there is

always a tendency of over assumption of the things which are not necessary.

- There can be a situation of dilemma where the identity of the action researcher

can get affected and he will be unable to decide the things because of the loyalty

tugs, behavioral claims and identification dilemmas.

In a citation Coghlan says that there is always a misunderstanding with the researchers

and they are always misunderstood because of different perceptions of the fellow staffs.

Coghlan suggest many ways to avoid this type of conflicts, he suggests that these types

of conflicts can be resolved in two approaches

- Mechanistic: It focuses on a particular charge or particular action.

- Organic: In this type of approach the focus is less on the outcomes and more on

the depth of the reason.

Other ways are also developed in the making a quick decision in the professional

development activities. This would make the way of teaching better and the knowledge

would be equally distributed. A research made by Finlay in 2012, he stated that the

teachers engaged in the action research are very much aware of their own practices

and beliefs and they are also aware of the fact that what their students are thinking.

Action research helps in the enhancement of the teacher to make initial decisions and

respond quickly to the situations.

by the people in a panic situation. These people are well established to handle pressure

and shows concerns about any problematic situation that leads to the solution of that
