Innovation can be defined as something new depending on the industry and could be a
new idea, product, model, process, service, or a new way of selling. A leadership innovator is an
entrepreneur who takes advantage of the available opportunities and adds value, and keeps it
improving over time. Innovators can be sole owners of the business or employed people. An
innovation leader combines a conducive, fostering environment and different leadership styles to
encourage employees to add positive value that best serves the organization. A successful
innovation allows an individual to add value to a business, thus increasing profits.

Lopes Henriques et al. conducted a study to establish how destructive leadership and
behavioral innovation affect organizational performance. It was a review by the journal of
management. The research involved a sample of 210 employees from 80 organizations from
diverse areas to establish the impacts of leadership style on behavioral innovation enhance such
relationships. The research findings showed that destructive leadership style affects innovation in
the organization. It was also established that a caring climate contributes positively to
innovations. The authors were qualified to write the article because of the academic
qualifications, for example Lopes Henriques is associate professor of HRM and organizational
behavior in Lisbon School of Economics and Management.
The outcome of the research depicts the importance of good leadership in innovation;
destructive leadership was found to affect Portuguese companies negatively. Therefore, the
