MHHCC has been operation since 1951. The company came into existence after the
community acknowledges the need for extra hospital beds. Since then, the organization has
enjoyed and benefited from the continuous support of the community. MHHCC serves the
community through the provision of continuum care that encompasses inpatient, post-acute, and
outpatient services (MHHCC, 2018). Unlike other healthcare organizations, the company
deploys an approach that is built around a patient-and family strategy. In 2018, the company was
awarded the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (Louann.scott@nist.gov. 2019).
Business strategies play an irreplaceable role in determining an organization's ability to achieve
and sustain its competitive vantage points (Davcik & Sharma, 2016). This report will evaluate
MHHCC to determine how its business strategy positions the company to achieve a competitive
advantage over its competitors.
One of the strategic decisions that enable the company to win the 2018 award was
equipping its radiology segment with current technology (MHHCC, 2018). This helped MHHCC
to attract clients from beyond Jasper. Also, the company decided to take on strategic
partnerships. Being a non-profit entity, the company established a working relationship with
Vizient (MHHCC, 2018). Such relationships played a vital role in helping it meet its financial
needs. The company operations lean on a funding business model. According to Agyapong and
Boamah (2013), this business model is most appropriate for healthcare organizations since they
have to continue offering services in spite of financial requirements. Therefore, MHHCC has
sustained this model by partnering with both the community and other institutions that provide
financial support. For instance, the organization was able to secure the latest apparatus for its
