ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY
Electrocardiography
What are some triggers in the history and physical that indicate performing an EKG?
Electrocardiography is the production of an electrocardiogram that records voltage from the
graph versus the electrical activity of the heart. The electrodes are placed on an individual's skin.
As such, the following are some triggers that call for the use of EKG/ECG:
In cases of chest pains or suspecting infarctions in the myocardial commonly known as
heart attack,
Shortness of murmurs, breath, funny turns or even arrhythmias inclusive of palpitations
might call for EKG,
Hyperkalemia among other electrolyte abnormalities also require EKG,
When an individual has stress hence testing for Cardiac stress.
What EKG rhythms seen in an office setting require urgent action on the part of the FNP?
Family nurse practitioners are those advanced practice nurses that are registered and work
autonomously or collaboratively with the rest of the health professionals in an attempt to deliver
quality health care for the family. On the part of FNP, several types of lethal ventricular
dysrhythmias call for emergency action (Neal-Boylan, 2011).
They are inclusive of the following:
The ventricular tachycardia, which sustains for over 30 seconds, and occurs without or
with a pulse. It is a fast heartbeat going 100-220 beats in a minute (Mattu, 2012).
Torsades De Pointes, which is a dysrhythmia between V-fib and V-tach (Mattu, 2012).
There is a slow heart rate preceding a fast heartbeat.
