The obvious nonrenewable resource that will have the most significant impact
to our lives if it is depleted is oil. Without oil, we have no cars, planes, or
electricity to light our homes. Society would crumble, armies would be
defunct, technology would be useless. America does not yet possess the
technology to go for an alternative to oil. Oil is also the most used fuel source
for power plants, with the exception of coal. America has built our civilization
and society around oil, as it keeps us moving along our day. At the moment,
there are no current efforts to conserve it and it is taken for granted. There is
really no significant possible way to conserve oil at this moment in time.
An example of people and the world utilizing a renewable resource is wind
power. Wind power converts wind energy into electricity, especially on wind
farms where smaller facilities are used to provide electricity to isolated
locations.
