Code blue
A code blue is a health emergency in hospitals when a patient needs immediate medical
attention because of respiratory or cardiac arrest. Code blue is a situation that is very scary for
any patient or caregiver involved and this is especially people who have limited experience in
certain medical emergencies.
The situation
Death situations wake feelings of insecurity, helplessness, and insufficiency in
caregivers. As a nursing practitioner, it’s normal to talk about death. However, when such
situations happen, it becomes a very hard situation to cope up with. My situation was a scary one
and I needed to call for a code blue immediately for I feared for the death of the patient. This
was a life-threatening situation and everybody who was near the location came to the rescue.
Luckily, the situation was rescued. The patient was on the operating table when I noticed the
danger. This was a high-risk surgery and the situation was becoming hard to control. This led us
to call for a code blue (Cubitt, 2017).
Aesthetic Knowing
Nothing is more dramatic and challenging in medicine like managing a cardiac arrest.
This becomes the moment of truth that has no time to prepare and not time to refer in books
neither time to consult from other medical practitioners. Cardiac arrest is cannot be postponed or
like an office appointment. This needs an immediate response. Medical practitioners are
expected to know what to do in case of such situations. This way of knowing is very different
from the empirical way of knowing. In this case of cardiac arrest, the practitioner’s response is
