Define what is meant by information

Information entails useful facts that are acquired from computers as output through the

processing of input data with a program. It can further be seen as the output data that is attained

from processing or the knowledge that is gained through study, research, communication, and

instruction. It is established for the purpose of informing about something and represents a

certain truth. According to Liew (2007), information that is attained after data processing in most

cases is abstract and does not contain unnecessary details. The meaningless data after processing

gets to be straightforward and conveys the meaning to the output. Therefore, information is

useful for a different purpose, including planning, documentation, analysis, and controlling of

important variables.

Define what is meant by data

Data can be defined as raw numbers, characters, text, statements, and special characters

that are used as qualitative or quantitative variables but without any specific purpose or meaning.

Also, data can be considered as the information that is collected, measured as bits and bytes that

require processing to be useful for making decisions or generating ideas on a subject (Liew,

2007). An additional meaning of data is that it is a low-level knowledge that is dependent on the

sources that are used for its collection and based on the observations and records of the collector.
