Emergent Literacy
Emergent literacy is the set of pre-reading and writing skills, knowledge, and feelings.
Emergent literacy includes the alphabet, phonological, print, and oral language competence.
Many educators and parents recognize the importance of emergent literacy and its impact on
later reading achievement. Emergent readers and writers learn the alphabet letters and sounds
and the norms and purposes of print. The skills are essential in early life development for better
reading skills in the future.
I am well-versed in how students pick up new reading abilities as they go along. To
ensure that emergent literacy skills are substantial, I would collaborate closely with Mario and
form a group of seven students. The pupils in the group would be a mix of top performers,
middle performers, and bottom performers. I will ensure early literacy evaluations are given to
pinpoint one or two specific emerging literacy skills. I will develop lesson plans and work
closely with the group to identify ideas and tactics that help students develop their skills to
succeed. The group will ensure that Mario is well-versed with emergent literacy skills.
The most effective strategy against Mario is to engage in interactions and sociability with
others. A primary and secondary discourse, or how one utilizes language in social contexts,
depends on one's social structure. The core discourse is language use with close family
membersthe language used in social settings outside of the home where a close bond is not
required. Language learning is a cognitive activity that involves explaining and analyzing
content (Nuraini). Language is learned through explicitly teaching skills like phonics. However,
acquisition is a subconscious process that occurs through natural exposure and requires a specific
educational structure. Children learn skills from others by observing and discussing. Literacy
abilities are acquired through talks and reading street signs or retail catalogs.

Learning a linguistic system requires both acquisition and re-acquisition. As a result,
children in the early stages of literacy development must be provided with numerous
opportunities to acquire and master the skills they need. This study will investigate what
educators may do to enhance children's learning and acquisition of literacy during the emergent
phase to set them up for future academic achievement. For later literacy learning to be more
effective, I designed lessons and activities around emerging literacy skills. I then identify
teaching methods and tactics that help struggling emerging literacy in Mario and other learners.
They may fall further behind in their academics if they lack adequate opportunities to learn
essential literacy skills. I, therefore, extended to teach the concepts and skills such as alphabetic
principle as they are essential building blocks for future academic achievement.
English Vocabulary
A person's ability to communicate effectively depends on recalling previously stored
information about the definitions and pronunciations of words. Fluency is the ability to read
words accurately and automatically with expression. The development of a student's vocabulary
is crucial for success in beginning reading. When presented with a word and instructed to sound
it out, they also assess whether or not the term makes perfect sense based on their understanding
of the word in question. It's critical to give Ivan as much exposure and practice with new
vocabulary words as possible before requesting that he use them in a lesson or activity. Ivan is
proficient in reading, but he lacks vocabulary knowledge. I will encourage him to use textbook
vocabulary lists written with native English speakers in mind since they're more familiar. And I
will show him how to pick words that help the reader grasp the tale or text better and how to use
connectors like periods and commas to help with comprehension.
Focusing on cognates would be the most effective method for Ivan, as it would allow him
to have an endless English vocabulary without additional training. Cognates are terms used to

describe words originating from the same basic word or root in multiple languages (Li, Cummins
& Deng, 2017). The vast majority of English terms have Spanish equivalents. As long as
students are made aware of the resource's existence and use it, this is a transparent bridge from
Spanish to English. Encourage Spanish speakers to connect words in the two languages and
comprehend literature based on their prior knowledge of the languages. In addition, I would
provide pupils with the opportunity to practice using new vocabulary words.
When it comes to improving students' vocabulary in English language learning, the
technique will be relevant to all pupils and practical. To enhance comprehension, I shall directly
teach word meanings. On the other hand, knowing a word implies being familiar with it on all
levels, including the capacity to define it, the ability to understand when to use it, and the ability
to decode and type it (Yunus & Saifudin, 2019). I would next instruct the kids on how to
correctly use multiple definitions of the same word in different circumstances of their lives.
When teaching a new word, the only way to ensure that students comprehend it is to produce it
themselves, either verbally or in writing.
