“The Edge of Gender”
In the podcast, there are particular views which align well with the concepts discussed in
the chapter. One of them is the psychological and emotional differences that exist between men
and women. According to scientific research, the biological structure of men and women are
different, and this highly determines the kind of stuff they are more likely to interact well with.
Men have traits that enhance better performance in more laborious activity, and on the other
hand, women perform well in areas where a social relationship is expected. This, therefore,
explains the reason why people perform differently in certain areas due to their genders and the
capabilities that gender provides. For this reason, most companies prefer hiring specific
individuals based on gender, although it should be noted that it can lead to discrimination.
Another view that relates to the issues discussed in chapter eleven is how environmental
factors affect the view of people on gender. When a child is born, it is difficult for the child to
identify things he or she is supposed to do and clothes to wear based on gender. This is then
changed depending on the kind of parents or guardians the child has, who frequently expose the
kid to a specific environment that encourages certain traits to appear and become normalized to
the child. In other words, parents and even the society people live in highly determines the way
people think, how they perform, and also the way they relate with other people. This defines the
reason as to why you will find men saying they cannot do specific tasks because they are meant
for women. This is because the environment they have been brought up in does not allow them to
do so.
I also learned new aspects of gender from the podcast. One of them is the idea that people
in certain areas tend to suffer simply because they are born and labeled as either male or female.
