HEALTHCARE SYSTEM ANALYSIS
Healthcare System Analysis
Introduction
The health department remains to be one of the most significant expenditure areas of the
US budget in relation to the GDP. In 2018, the health department spent $3.65 trillion, which
represents 17.8% of the GDP. In 2017, the US government had spent $3.5 trillion in healthcare.
One of the factors that can be attributed to the high and the rising healthcare costs is the
increasing percentage of elderly members of the society from the baby boomers generation. The
increase in the elderly members of the society calls for specialized care, which includes skilled
healthcare facilities for different conditions, for example, dementia or Alzheimer's. Below is a
cost consideration discussion that explores the cost of providing services in a specialized facility
for patients with Alzheimer's or dementia. Planned revenue streams will be analyzed as well to
determine the viability of running the specialized facility as a business.
Costs of providing services in the health facility
Loans for property, equipment, and inventory represent one of the significant costs to be
incurred by the health facility in the provision of services to people with dementia or
Alzheimer's. For the healthcare facility to be operational, it requires to be housed in a given
property, and have specific equipment that will enable medical personnel to offer healthcare
services (Childers & Maggard-Gibbons, 2018). Also, keeping an inventory is an expensive
exercise that requires a consistent supply of cash. If the facility is run privately, these are high
costs that can be met through loans. If the facility is run as a public health center, the government
may step in and assist with some costs making it a less expensive venture.
