Question 1
SWOT Analysis
A SWOT analysis examines four areas in business management: Strengths, Weaknesses,
Opportunities, and Threats. Strengths would consider the advantages a company has over the
competition. Weaknesses would reflect the shortcomings of the organization. Opportunities
would outline potential trends that the company could take advantage of and finally, threats
would assess the external conditions or obstacles the company would face that would have a
negative impact on business. The SWOT analysis assists you in identifying the aspects of the
business in which you do well and the ones that you need to improve. It also helps you to
develop strategies to protect your business while assisting the business in defining areas within
the industry that need to be filled (Smith, 2022).
Contingency Leadership
Formally known as Hersey and Blanchard’s Situational Leadership Theory, this
contingency model focuses on leadership style and the maturity of those being led. Situational
leadership theory puts forth the idea that leadership styles hinge on four behaviors: telling,
selling, participating, and delegating. The maturity levels range from an incompetence or
unwillingness to perform the task, to a willingness and ability to perform. The idea is that a
successful leader will adapt leadership techniques to fit the maturity level of the group in
question on a situational basis.

reach their premium and item goal. These goals are set by agency managers, and it is a specific

amount that needs to be met to help the agency reach their monthly and annual sales goals. And
there are three behaviors from this leadership model that need to be followed to make the
individual and agency goals possible. The selling behavior would need to be used for new agents
who do not know much of what they are doing but they are willing to learn. This is a very
encouraging and upbeat model that requires frequent contact with the new hire to make sure
instructions are being followed. For tenured agents the delegating approach would work best,
allowing them to work independently gives them to confidence and empowerment to complete
the tasks needed meanwhile giving more time for the manager to focus on new hires as well as
those who are not meeting expectations.
Emerging Technology
The current technological advancements have made a large impact to everyone, from the
workplace to our personal lives, technology affects everyone daily. Now, in the insurance sales
world, we have online platforms that allow agents to request insurance and driving records as
well as create an accurate quote in less than five minutes. With these advancements agents can
write more business than before. By writing more business agents are not only able to reach their
sales goals but help drive business for the company and elevate their company’s rankings on a
state and national level.
Beneficial Assignments
The most beneficial assignment had to be the reflections after each learning resource. The
reflection, specifically, helped to connect the course materials to my work life. My goal is to
become a manger for the Allstate agency owner I work at now and eventually I would like to
own my own agency. Being able to connect the readings with my current work life and

environment has helped me to understand the topics we read about as well as implement these
strategies into my work life as well. Though the assessments were also helpful, being able to
analyze an external company was beneficial. But being able to apply the competencies discussed
has been very helpful to me in my educational journey thus far.
